Uganda is internationally known for its open-door policy toward displaces population. The country currently hosts 1.5 million refugees, making it the largest refugee-hosting nation in Africa. These population mainly orginate from the DRC, South Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda and Somalia. This high concetration of refugee places enormous pressure on the country's social, healthcare, and economic resources.
The Nakivale Refugee Settlement where SALVATION ONGD/asbi operates, is one of the oldest and largest refugee camp in Africa. It hosts highly diverse population and continues to recieve new arrivals weekly, many of whom are destitute and in alarming health conditions. The camp's growing saturation intensifies challenges in housing, healthcare access and education.
